Where is Koh Rong & How To Get There?
Koh Rong is located off of the coast of Cambodia with its main connecting ferry service located in Sihanoukville.
With an area of 78 square kilometers, Koh Rong is the same size as Hong Kong & the second largest island in Cambodia. There are 4 main villages on the island: Koh Touch, Doeum D’keuw, Prek Svay and Sok San.
There are various ways of getting to Koh Rong. You can arrive very inexpensively by bus from Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville and then a ferry crossing, or a more comfortable approach, with a direct flight into Sihanoukville Airport.
If you are traveling internationally, you can fly direct to Sihanoukville airport from many cities in Asia and as the airport expands over the next few years, other long-haul flights from Europe & the rest of the world should follow.
From Sihanoukville Airport, it is about a 30-minute drive to the Serendipity Beach Pier where you can take a 50-minute ferry ride to Koh Rong & or the sister island of Koh Rong Sanloem. Ferries depart every couple of hours and you have a choice of boat service companies such as Speed Ferry Cambodia & other companies.
There is also an option for the “slow boat” which is a traditional Khmer wooden boat that takes about 2 hours. It is a nice way to arrive on Koh Rong Island and for people who are looking for that authentic experience.
If you have pre-booked your accommodation ahead of time, your hotel manager or tour operator can assist you with the best service for your particular travel plans.
If you are looking to arrive in style, Helicopters Cambodia has a Helicopter service that you can fly direct from Sihanoukville airport on a Bell 505 Jet Ranger X. This is for the VIP clients staying at the new Royal Sands Resort & they also can arrange scenic flights & special charters.]
Whatever way you choose to visit Koh Rong, it will be well worth the journey.
